BURNT METHOD
Our method is direct and predictable. Our issues are multi-year because they are complex, concern property rights, permits, or we are changing laws.
We work with multiple agencies such as the State Legislature, Metro Council, and regulatory boards. A KEY CONCEPT is written flyers and letters to leave a record and
define the situation.
Our strength is with the elected legislative bodies which strengthens us with regulatory
agencies. One Metro Council member told a group of elected officials "When I am speaking and asked about advocacy, I always say that BURNT is the most effective advocacy group because they are always present at the Council and the State Legislature even if they do not something they want--BURNT is available." We always offer positive alternatives. We are research based. One aspect of BURNT which needs to change--for 22 years we have been all volunteer. We need organizers, researchers, and managers given our extensive opportunities in solid waste, multiple chemicals, and environmental justice.
