We believe toxic chemicals are an unacceptable risk for the future of our planet and humankind.

We believe that business and agriculture should be governed by a "cradle to grave" responsibility for their use of chemicals.

We believe by promoting recycling, pesticide reform, and better solid waste management within the governmental process, we can help our State develop a toxic free environment.

WE MUST

1. Bring in and retain new people by exposing them to the issues and methods of bringing change to our community

2. Provide decision makers access to authoritative research and experience that shows that our solutions work

3. Develop our positions based on available research.

METHOD

BURNT blends research, activism, and policy change. We research the pollution source, investigate the regulatory decision process, and develop positive solutions.

BURNT works for environmental justice. Though, we are all affected by toxic chemicals, BURNT knows pollution effects more often poorer neighborhoods and minorities.

1. Our solutions are market oriented. Eliminating flagrant polluters such as the downtown incinerator and the Rendering Plant improved commercial real estate values in Nashville.

2. BURNT believes that food and yard waste should be separating out from the solid waste stream to create compost and recyclable materials for profit.

3. BURNT is extremely committed to multi-year issues. We led the four-year effort to control Metro’s mosquito pesticide spraying. Earlier we worked with Metro Schools to improve their pesticide policies. We stay the course.
